The drainfield, or leach field, is where effluent from the tank disperses into the soil. When it fails you get standing water, odor and backups. Some failures are repairable, such as a blocked line or a hydraulic overload. A genuinely exhausted soil absorption area has to be replaced, which requires a permit in both South Carolina and Georgia and is a five figure job. We diagnose which one you have before quoting.
Drainfields rarely fail overnight. They give warnings for months. These are the ones people miss.
Effluent surfacing because the soil can no longer absorb it. This is the clearest signal and the most urgent.

Pump the tank, check the outlet, check the distribution box, check the lines. A surprising number of drainfield failures are a blocked D-box or a collapsed line.
Hydraulic overload from a leaking fixture or excess water use can look exactly like a failed field, and it is fixable without replacement.
If it does need replacing, we evaluate where the new field can go. South Carolina requires a fifty percent repair area to be reserved, which is often where the new field lands.
Replacement requires a permit in both states. SCDES on the South Carolina side, county health department on the Georgia side. We file it.
New trenches or, if the soil will not support conventional, an engineered design, which we are Tier 3 licensed to install. Georgia inspects before backfill, every time.
Driven by field size, which follows bedroom count, soil type, site access, whether the old field has to be abandoned in place or removed, and above all whether the replacement can be conventional or has to be engineered. A conventional replacement and an engineered one are not the same order of magnitude.
